Harry’s is a family run business who want to share our flair and passion for food created with quality local ingredients. We’re looking for a talented Head Chef to work with the owner and senior sous chef on a daily basis, focusing on cooking the finest meats under pressure. Our goal for the future is to take Harry’s to the top of premium casual dining and we’d like someone, like you, with new innovative ideas to help us achieve this.

 

The Role

You’ll enjoy being part of a close-knit team who share an interest in how well the business is doing and to watch it thrive. Each meal developed within the walls of our restaurant is a labour of love, so it’s key you appreciate the food that we know our guests crave and come back for. We want you to enjoy preparing and cooking these dishes for them as much as they enjoy visiting. You’ll need to be highly ambitious and have the ability to pass on motivation to the rest of your team.

Running this busy kitchen is not for the faint hearted. You’ll be expected to operate the kitchen brilliantly and produce outstanding results. The role is very hands-on, fast paced and extremely varied, so experienced kitchen management skills are a must-have. You’ll already know how timing is everything when it comes to cooking the perfect steak. 

You’ll also contribute to private functions and parties, including hosting a separate event space within the building. Prep work for breakfast, lunch and dinner shifts will be a breeze for you. Responsibility for health and safety, food hygiene, and achievement of GP targets goes without saying. You’ll use your own initiative with making orders, stock rotation and working to budgets with the support of your senior sous chef.

Harry’s has close working relationships with suppliers who are typically local and all longstanding, supplying a variety of seasonal produce for the menu.

 

Who We Are

Harry’s Restaurant is set in the heart of the city and has been gratifying appetites for 29 years. Rated as one of the best restaurants in Exeter on TripAdvisor, Harry’s has established itself to become the go-to dining den on the neighbourhood food scene. Founded in 1993 by the Pounds family, Harry’s is still independently owned and run today. The eclectic restaurant, bar and private dining room all sit within the iconic gothic style building, formerly Harry Hems’ 19th century architectural sculptors workshop.

 

The Skills

  • Previous chef work or cooking experience is essential
  • Experience in a similar role within a similar operation (Grill/Steak House/high volume) would be beneficial
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Great communication skills
  • A people person working as part of a close-knit team
  • Excellent attention to detail is desired alongside good presentation skills
  • Successfully delegate tasks within the team
  • Ability to work a minimum of 48 hours per week
  • A level 3 food hygiene certificate is preferred, but not essential
