Meet the local supplier: Baboo Gelato

We’re thrilled to introduce Baboo Gelato to the Harry’s ever-growing list of local suppliers.

Baboo Gelato’s ice cream is handmade and carefully prepared from scratch on their premises in Bridport, Dorset, using their own fresh, seasonal fruit, local, organic milk and lashings of dedication…

Here’s a little bit more about them…

The story

Baboo Gelato was set up in 2015 by Annie Hanbury, a trained gelatiere who wanted to combine her passion for making seriously good ice cream with the glut of fabulous, ripe fruit on her doorstep. After years of living abroad, Annie and her family moved to the beautiful rolling hills behind the Dorset seaside town of Bridport and became proud owners of a smallholding with an overflowing and abandoned market garden. Annie decided she wanted to put the heart and soul back into the ice cream making.

Baboo Gelato have won an impressive amount of awards. In their first year alone, they bagged Champion Ice Cream & Sorbet 2016 by Taste of the West for their lemon sorbet and ‘Best Dairy Producer’ by Taste of Dorset. Their raspberry sorbet and pistachio gelato both won gold stars from The Guild of Fine Food 2016, they have been finalists for Taste of the West’s Champion Ice Cream award every year since 2016, and are finalists again this year with their hazelnut gelato. In 2019 already, they have won 6 gold awards and 1 silver from Taste of the West!

Baboo Gelato's tips for enjoying gelato at home

Gelato tastes best at -12oc. This allows the taste buds to be more receptive, which makes the flavour of gelato much more intense. Achieve this at home by taking the tub out of your freezer (usually at -18°C) and pop in the fridge for about 15 minutes before indulging.

We've spent years developing meaningful relationships with some outstanding local suppliers.
